Yes, provided the birth certificate issued by the competent authorities has been authenticated by the Home Department of the concerned State/Union Territory in India and then by the Attestation Section of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi or the MEA Branch Secretariats in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Guwahati.

 

Typically, it takes around 15-30 days from the date of application to obtain the birth certificate.

You can apply for a duplicate birth certificate at the Municipal office of the area where the birth took place. You will have to submit relevant documents along with your application which establish your date of birth, place of birth and an affidavit stating the loss of original birth certificate. 

In order to make a correction in the birth certificate, you will have to submit a written application to the Municipal office of your area. You will be required to submit attested copies of the following documents:

  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Affidavit with correct details to be included in the birth certificate
  • Identity cards of both parents (photocopy of any one of the following will suffice: Voter ID card, Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License)
